Unveiled Faces Artist Collective

Unveiled Faces is a performing arts collective whose mission is to share the "uncommon" stories of the common human experience. We are seeking to raise funds for our upcoming project, "Of Mugs and Monsters"; an uncommonly told story of survival that gives voice to those unable to speak their trauma. In this raw new work, two friends fight to make sense of their toxic relationship laced with manipulation, abuse, and sexual assault.

”Of Mugs and Monsters” is an original show written by Maranatha Leigh (Purring), Artistic Director and Resident Playwright for Unveiled Faces Artist Collective. The inspiration for the story came directly from real events in the playwright’s life. While in grad school, Maranatha was repeatedly sexually assaulted by her closest friend. The manipulation and shame kept her confused and silent. Amidst the continued abuse, Maranatha came across a written story by someone in a nearly identical situation. Reading that story gave her the courage to identify her own trauma, report her attacker, and escape the abuse. In the weeks that followed, Maranatha began writing her own story as a form of catharsis.  Over the next year, the story and characters developed into a full length play.

Through this production, Unveiled Faces hopes to ignite a trend of storytelling from people who may have thought they couldn’t express their story or celebrate their survival. 

As part of the project, we are seeking to partner with local organizations to provide immediate help, resources, and even counseling options at each showing. We want to provide tangible support for both victims and friends/families of victims.
