<div>Uns hat Eure große Anteilnahme und die überwältigende Unterstützung sehr berührt und wir sind unbeschreiblich dankbar. Wegen Eurem großen Interesse an seinen Entwicklungen, wollen wir Euch berichten wie es Aaron momentan geht:

<div>Nach ungefähr 19 Wochen ist Aaron aus der Spezialklinik in die Reha überwiesen worden. Sein Alltag fängt dort früh an und er hat jeden Tag ungefähr fünf Stunden Therapie. Jeder Tag sieht anders aus jedoch sind Physiotherapie, Ergotherapie, Anziehtraining, Rollstuhlsport, Krafttraining sowie Sprachtherapie, feste Bestandteile der Behandlung. Er hat natürlich auch Freizeit, in der er Besuch bekommt, seine Übungen macht oder auch einfach Musik hört.

<div>Durch die kontinuierlichen Übungen und den Kraftaufbau, schafft es Aaron sich bereits fast alleine vom Bett in den Rollstuhl - oder vom Rollstuhl in das Auto zu transferieren. Er macht kleine aber stetige Fortschritte und ist mit Tatendrang dabei.

<div>Über die Weihnachtszeit war er das erste mal seit dem Unfall tagsüber zuhause. Dort wurden und werden die nötigen Vorkehrungen getroffen, um Aaron eine barrierefreie Heimkehr zu ermöglichen, zum Beispiel wurde bereits eine Rampe zur Haustür gemauert.

<div>Wir hoffen, dass der Aufenthalt in der Reha Aaron weiterbringt, ihn weiter stärkt und er von dort aus für die nächste Etappe autarker nach Hause kommen kann.

<div>für meinen Bruder und unseren Cousin Aaron, wollen wir, Ruven, Carla und Nicola, diesen Spendenaufruf starten. Er ist nach einem Badeunfall querschnittsgelähmt (Tetraplegiker).
</div>

<div>Wir möchten Aaron die Perspektive für ein selbstständig geführtes Leben schaffen, und leider braucht es dafür unglaublich viel Geld. Nach seinem Unfall wünschen wir uns, dass er ein Umfeld hat, indem er sich vollkommen aufs Kämpfen und Genesen konzentrieren kann.

<div>Aaron ist dieses Jahr (2023) im April 18 Jahre alt geworden und hat dieses Jahr auch sein Abitur gemacht. Am 05. Juni, dem Tag, an dem er seine Abiturergebnisse bekommen hat, hatte Aaron einen schweren Unfall.
</div>

<div>An diesem Sommertag ist Aaron mit seinen Freunden an ihren üblichen See gefahren. Wie am Strand ist er ins Wasser gelaufen, wollte einen flachen Köpfer machen, ist aber mit dem Kopf im Sandboden hängengeblieben. Daraufhin spürte er ein Knacksen im Genick und konnte sich nicht mehr bewegen, er sah seine Arme regungslos im Wasser treiben. Er versuchte Luft zu holen, erfolglos, da sein Gesicht unter Wasser war und verlor dann das Bewusstsein. Zum Glück zogen ihn seine Freunde rechtzeitig aus dem See. Als Aaron wieder zu Bewusstsein kam, sagte er, dass er sich nicht bewegen könne. Er spürte nicht einmal, dass seine Beine noch im Wasser lagen.

<div>Im Krankenhaus stellten die Ärzte fest, dass der 6te Halswirbel zertrümmert war und ein Knochensplitter im Rückenmark steckte. Die Diagnose des Notarztes an der Unfallstelle „Querschnittslähmung“, wurde im Krankenhaus bestätigt.
</div>

<div>Mit zwei großen Operationen von über 4 und 6 Stunden, entfernten die Ärzte das Knochenstück aus seinem Rückenmark und ersetzten den kompletten 6ten Halswirbel durch ein Implantat aus Titan, welches durch Platten und Schrauben fixiert wurde. Aaron lag nach der zweiten Operation im künstlichen Koma und wurde in eine Spezialklink verlegt, wo er wieder aufwachte und noch 2 Wochen auf der Intensivstation lag.

<div>Aaron ist brustabwärts gelähmt.

<div>Das bedeutet, er kann seinen Rumpf und Beine nicht ansteuern und sich zum Beispiel nicht selbständig aufrichten. Deswegen sitzt er im Rollstuhl und muss in diesem angebunden werden. Aaron kann seine Schultern, Arme und Hände bewegen, aber seine Finger nicht. Dadurch kann er zum Beispiel nur sehr schwer selbstständig essen und trinken. Er muss umgezogen, gewaschen und gefüttert werden sowie in den Rollstuhl gesetzt werden. Also kann er keine alltäglichen Dinge mehr alleine machen. Aaron wird sein Leben lang auf medizinische Betreuung angewiesen sein.

<div>Die Ärzte sagen, dass man vom Jetzt-Zustand ausgehen muss, und das bedeutet, dass Aarons Leben nach diesem einen schicksalhaften Moment komplett anders aussehen wird. Aaron hat einen langen und unsicheren Weg vor sich, aber wir wollen ihn auf diesem ermutigen und alles machen, was wir können, damit er seine Freude, seinen Glauben an das Leben und die Hoffnung nicht verliert.

<div>Aaron spielte seit vielen Jahren Basketball und ist im Herzen ein begeisterter Sportler. Vor dem Basketball hat Aaron Fußball und Handball im Verein gespielt, war im Tischtennis und Badminton gut, ist Snow- und Wakeboard sowie viel Fahrrad gefahren. Ein hoffnungsvoller, junger sportlicher Mensch hat von einer Sekunde auf die andere alle Möglichkeiten zum eigenständigen Leben verloren. Alle Träume, die er gehabt hat, sind geplatzt.

<div>Es geht uns um Aarons Zukunft. Schon jetzt ist klar, dass auf Aaron und unsere Familie enorme Kosten zukommen. Es werden viele privat zu zahlende Therapien und Hilfsmittel notwendig sein, für die wir heute die Kosten nicht annährend abschätzen können. Auch um Aaron ein Leben in seiner gewohnten Umgebung zuhause zu ermöglichen braucht es zum Beispiel den Einbau eines Liftes, den Umbau des Bads sowie die Anschaffung und Umrüstung eines geeigneten Autos.

<div>Support for Aaron, 18, after paraplegia

<div>We, Ruven, Carla and Nicola, would like to start this fundraising appeal for our brother and cousin Aaron. He is a paraplegic (quadriplegic) after a tragic swimming accident.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We would like to give Aaron the perspective of leading an independent life, unfortunately this requires an incredible amount of money to do so. After his accident, we wish for him to have an environment where he can fully concentrate on recovering.
</div>

</div>
<div>Aaron turned 18 this year (2023) and also graduated from high school (Abitur) this year. On the 5th of June, the day he graduated and got his A-Levels, Aaron had a serious accident.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On this summer day, Aaron and his friends went to the Lake they usually go to. Just like at the beach and how he usually does, he ran into the water and wanted to do a shallow header, but he got stuck in a sandbank. That’s when he felt a cracking in his neck and could no longer move. He remembers seeing his arm floating motionless in the water. He tried to catch his breath but wasn’t able to do so, because his head was under water, he then lost consciousness. Fortunately, his friends pulled him out of the lake in time. When Aaron regained consciousness, he said he could not move. He didn’t even feel that his legs where still in the water.

<div>At the hospital, the doctors found that the 6th cervical vertebra had been shattered and a bone splinter was stuck in his spinal cord. The diagnosis of the emergency doctor “paraplegia”, was confirmed at the hospital.
</div>

</div>
<div>In two major operations lasting over 4 and 6 hours, the doctors removed the piece of bone from his spinal cord and replaced the entire 6th cervical vertebra with an titanium implant. Aaron was in an induced coma after the second operation and was transferred to a special clinic where he woke up again and was in intensive care for another 2 weeks.
</div>

<div>Aaron is paralysed chest downwards.
</div>

</div>
<div>This means he cannot control his Hips and legs and can’t stand up on his own. That is why he must sit in a wheelchair and has to be tied down in it. Aaron is able to move his shoulders, arms and hands, but not his fingers. This makes it very difficult for him to do essential things, for example, eat and drink on his own. He has to be changed, washed, fed and put in a wheelchair. So he can no longer do everyday things on his own. Aaron will be dependent on medical care for the rest of his life.

<div>The Doctors say that we have to work with the current situation and do not expect Aarons condition to change, that means that Aarons life will look completely different after this one fateful moment. Aaron has a long and uncertain road ahead of him, but we would like to encourage him on it and do everything we can so that he doesn’t lose his joy, his belief in life and his hope.

<div>Aaron has played basketball for many years and is a keen sportsman at heart. Before basketball, Aaron played football and handball in a club, was very good at table tennis and badminton, snowboarded and wake boarded as well as cycled a lot. Aaron, a hopeful, young athletic person, has lost all possibility of independent living from one second to the next. All his dreams were shattered in that one moment.

<div>This is about Aarons future. It is already clear that Aaron and our family will face enormous costs. Many privately paid therapies and aids will be necessary, for which we cannot even begin to estimate the costs today. Also to enable Aaron to live in his familiar surroundings at home, it will need, for example, the installation of a lift, modifications of the bathroom, the purchase and modification of a suitable car and so much more we cannot determine at this time.

<div>That is why we are turning to you: We are very thankful for the concern and sympathy of all of you and it has touched us very much. With this fundraising appeal, we also want to give you the opportunity to support him. Aaron is grateful for every donation.
