United Way of Kern County Book of the Month Club
I am so excited that you are interested in being a part of my fundraiser for United Way of Kern’s Book of the Month Club. With the help of donors like us, United Way of Kern County (UWKC) is able to encourage a love of literacy in numerous families Countywide which will inevitably lead these children down the path to a brighter future! 150% of your monetary donation will go towards the purchase of new books to benefit this great cause because your donation is generously matched at 50% by Usborne Books and More.
UWKC seeks a $4,000 monthly sponsorship in order to pay for the cost of books, materials, supplies, and postage to mail out the books. Currently, 600 children are enrolled in the program and this would not be possible without the help of donors like you. Any donation amount is help toward their monthly goal, and I sincerely appreciate your investment in the educational future of our Kern County families.
United Way of Kern County strives to strengthen our community's capacity to support its most vulnerable families. They help new parents take on the role of their child's first teacher by getting new books into homes, connecting them with their local library, and providing them with the tools they need to foster in their children a life-long love of reading. When a child is given a brand-new book in their hands, it is an investment in their future. We know that if children have a love for books, it will lead to a love for reading, which will lead to greater academic success down the road.
UWKC’s Book of the Month Club provides a new, age-appropriate book each month to low- and moderate-income (LMI) families with children between the ages of 0-8 years. The initiative serves two purposes:
(1) to build up the home libraries of at-risk families throughout Kern, and
(2) to create a communication gateway for LMI families to access other early childhood development and
financial stability resources available through UWKC and its partners.
