Unf*ck the Santa Screwed

Hello, my name is Emerald, thank you for taking the time to read this. I am raising money to cover the expenses of moving what’s left of my belongings after a theft, which occurred in July of this year in Santa Cruz.

This is difficult for me. I’ve always taken pride in, and been known for, my self-reliance but I am currently unable to put the pieces back together after a tumultuous year in 2018.

I’ve been known to use many a word so hopefully, I can keep this short. I moved to SC in 2017 to start something new and ended up losing almost everything. The company I traveled to work for went under, survived a terrifying car accident and, without a steady income, could no longer afford where I lived.

Determined not to lose hope, I weathered on working side jobs, acquired a car in which to live until I more money to eventually move back to San Diego. I was able to move the contents of my two-bedroom house into a storage container on a property in the Santa Cruz Mountains and would return for them as soon as financially possible.

Before I could return the container was broken into. Much was stolen, lots destroyed, and what’s left I’m hoping to recover and transport back to San Diego. 

While I understand that, after the memories and family keepsakes, all of these items are just possessions, I still feel violated. As a child of poverty, “things” mean much more when you have gone with very little for so long.

I am currently working two jobs and will be enrolling in cosmetology school in the spring (something I can’t start until this ordeal is resolved). As it stands, I barely make enough to cover my expenses let alone the costs associated with this endeavor. I am not asking for funds to replace my belongings but could use some financial assistance to aid in cleaning up the wreckage of my past.

Here is a breakdown of the costs I have estimated so far not including lost wages (+/- $400):
- Flight for 2 people, one way- $300   (could be $161 if we took the train)
- Lodging for 1 room, two nights- $250
- Food $25/day per person- $150
- Rental car compact SUV for 3 days- $84 without insurance, $114 with
- Dump fees for 2 runs @$19.68/yd- $80
- Uhaul rental 10 ft truck- $500
- Gas approx$3.62/ gal 12 mpg approx 500 miles trip- $150.83,
- Storage unit 5' x 10' one month- $56
