Oumaima is one of many children who were brought to America by their parents at a young age. In this case, Maima was 9 years old. America is where she and millions of other children in her situation grew up knowing as their home. It is not logical, nor ethical, to deny equal rights to human beings who were brought to America at a young age.
Oumaima is currently being held in a prison due to immigration disputes. Without getting into the specifics, the verdict is unjust, and Oumaima has not been given a fair hearing. She was involved in a legal matter that was to be dismissed in court, and she was detained by immigration services at the specified court date and location before the case had the chance to be resolved . Oumaima's immediate family in America is five younger sisters that love her dearly, as well as her mother. Maima has been living in America since she was 9 years old, and has been a part of the DACA program that was recently in the news and is being dismantled by the government.
The idea that Maima has been living in America for over 14 years, and has been paying taxes and working full time makes it hard to believe that her freedom can be taken without a fair chance for a hearing. Not only is Oumaima a contributing member of society, she is a human being, and ALL human beings should be treated equally.
Imagine if your sibling, or daughter was being held in prison due to an unjust misunderstanding, with the looming idea that she will be deported to another country. Especially during the holidays. Her family looks up to her, and rely on Maima for emotional and sustained monetary support. Maima has had an integral role in helping raise her sisters. She has been a positive influence, role model, and parental figure within her family.
There is a chance for Maima to be granted a bond and try to sort out these legal issues. The problem is that immigrants aren't given the same rights, and it is very expensive for bail, and court fees. She needs to raise money ASAP. The soonest Maima will be able to request a hearing is after the New Year. It is imperative that we can do whatever we can to help her as soon as possible.
