This gofundme account is being set up to help 19 year old Olivia Bowers with medical expenses associated with her recent Lymphoma diagnosis.
Did you know the average cost for cancer treatment can be $14,000 a MONTH (gomedico.com). An average four month treatment can cost $56,000 or more. For those with little insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses can be down right scary, during an already frightening time.
What started out as a year of renewed hope, took a sudden and unexpected turn this week when Olivia received the news nobody should ever have to hear - you have Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
The week after Christmas, Olivia had been applying lotion to her neck, as she usually did - only this time something felt different. A painless lump in her neck. Because Olivia is a college student, studying to become a nurse, she knew to get it checked out. Little did she know that the trip to the Physician Assistance would lead her down an unimaginable path.
The otherwise healthy Olivia endured blood work, ultrasound, CT Scan, biopsy, PET Scan and visits to a Pediatric Oncologist. If that sounds like a lot within a week, you're right. And if it sounds expensive - you're right again. Unfortunately those having fought this horrible disease know that its just the beginning. Olivia will endure a surgical procedure for a port next week. She will need frequent lab work to monitor her immune levels, chemotherapy treatment (which includes a multitude of drugs administered to alleviate the effects of the chemo) and frequent visits to her Oncologist.
As I stated earlier, Olivia is a 19 year old college student. She has been living with no financial support from her family for years. She works at a nursing home while also studying to become a nurse, however with little insurance, the costs tied to fighting the Lymphoma will be high.
I've personally known Olivia for the past 3 years. She is extremely caring, hard working, beautiful, independent girl... no ... woman, who is going to need our help. I know she will be eternally grateful for the support!
