Adapted House for Amelia-Maison adapté pour Amelia

Amelia was born perfectly healthy but at the age of 6 weeks she started to have seizures several times a day. At the age of 5 months, genetic test results revealed that she had epileptic encephalopathy caused by spontaneous mutation of the CDKL5 gene, a rare neurological genetic condition. She has refractory epilepsy, which is resistant to any medication; she also has cortical blindness and is considered legally blind. She doesn't walk, sit or take anything with her hands. She is dependent on an adult for all activities of daily living.
Amelia is followed by several specialists and therapists to improve her quality of life however she will never develop like a normal child. Amelia is growing and her needs are growing along with her. She gets around with the help of an adult in an adapted stroller, and also needs other positioning equipment.
The family currently lives in a two-story house that does not meet Amelia's growing needs. In 2019, the family bought a new single-level home, the adaptation work is expensive but is necessary to accommodate an adapted bathroom, garage, as well as enlargement of the corridors and doors. Work began in late February / early March 2020 but due to COVID there was closure of the site. When the work resumed, there was a lack of labor suppliers this also caused a shortage of supplies and increased costs of materials. This was the straw that broke the camel's back.
The goal is to raise money to finish the work already started, which includes; finishing of the exterior and interior framework, install the roof before cold weather, along with completion of the interior.
We rely heavily on help; even as little as 5 dollars can make a difference.

Amelia est née en parfaite santé mais à l’âge de 6 semaines, elle s’est mise à convulser plusieurs fois par jour. À l’âge de 5 mois, les résultats des tests génétiques révèlent qu’elle est atteinte d’une encéphalopathie épileptique causée par la mutation spontanée du gène CDKL5, une condition génétique neurologique rare. Elle souffre d’une épilepsie réfractaire, qui est résistante à la médication. Elle est atteinte d’une cécité corticale, elle est légalement considérée aveugle. Elle ne marche pas, ne s’assoie pas et ne prend rien de ses mains. Elle est dépendante d’un adulte pour toutes les activités quotidiennes.
Amelia est suivie par plusieurs spécialistes et thérapeutes pour améliorer sa qualité de vie mais elle ne se développera jamais comme un enfant normal. Amelia grandit et ses besoins grandissent avec elle. Elle se déplace à l’aide d’un adulte en poussette adaptée, et autres équipements de positionnement.
La famille habite présentement dans une maison à étages qui ne convient pas aux besoins grandissants d’Amelia. L’achat d’une nouvelle maison à un seul palier en 2019 s’est imposé.
Les travaux d’adaptation sont couteux mais s’avèrent nécessaires pour accueillir une salle de bain adaptée, un garage adaptée, un agrandissement des couloirs et portes. Les travaux ont commencé fin février/début mars 2020. Le COVID a causé la fermeture du chantier. Lorsque ceux-ci ont repris, les fournisseurs se faisaient rare, cela a causé aussi une pénurie et une augmentation des couts de matériaux. Ceci était la goutte d’eau qui a fait déborder le vase.
L’objectif est de ramasser de l’argent pour finir les travaux déjà entamé : finir la charpente extérieure et intérieure, poser la toiture avant le grand froid, faire la finition intérieur.
Nous comptons énormément sur l’aide, même un 5$ peut faire la différence.
