<div>Passionné de cinéma, j’ai poursuivi pendant plus de 10 ans le rêve hollywoodien de devenir scénariste réalisateur de fiction. En 2020, j'ai laissé le cinéma de côté et pour aller vivre moi-même des aventures, plutôt que d’en inventer à des héros imaginaires. Mes lectures (Mike Horn, Patrice Franceschi, Sylvain Tesson ou Henry de Monfreid, et bien entendu les récits des grands explorateurs) m’ont poussé à franchir le seuil de ma porte, et de me lancer dans un premier voyage en solitaire, un pèlerinage de Compostelle hivernal pour éprouver mon corps et parfaire mon mental.

<div>Durant ce premier voyage, j’ai tenu un journal de bord que j’ai autoédité à mon retour (Compostelle : de l’imagination à l’action). En 2022, j’ai confirmé ce nouveau chemin de vie d'écrivain voyageur en me lançant deux nouveaux défis. D’abord, je suis allé me mesurer au célèbre GR20 corse, mais au cœur de l’hiver et en solitaire (Hors saison : le GR20 en hiver). Ensuite, à l’automne de cette même année, je me suis lancé dans mon plus grand voyage à ce jour : la descente du Danube en kayak, mon « <a href="https://youtu.be/0jBsu3Xz1ZE" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Odyssée sur le Danube</a> », dont j'ai tiré un nouveau récit de voyage, ainsi qu'un court-métrage documentaire dont je suis très fier, renouant ainsi avec ma mon amour du 7ème art.

<div>À l’automne 2024, j’ai traversé la Grèce en sac à dos sur le tracé oublié de l’Epirus Trail, rebaptisé Pindus Trail, 700 km sur les traces des bergers et de leurs bêtes, des résistants de la seconde guerre mondiale, dont le Pinde fût le théâtre, et sous le regard des Dieux de l’Olympe, gravissant deux des plus hauts sommets de Grèce, Grammos et Smolikas, et visitant deux des sites les plus sacrés de la Grèce antique, Dodone et Delphes. Un nouveau récit de voyage en cours d’écriture, qui s’intitulera « Oracle ». Un voyage hautement spirituel à la poursuite des fantômes inspirants de l'histoire.

<div><strong><em>Je vous propose de rendre un grand hommage aux explorateurs polaires des siècles derniers dans un véritable pèlerinage aux multiples destinations symboliques. Plusieurs hommages secondaires à des grands navigateurs et conquérants des pôles comme Barentsz, Filchner, Rasmussen, Nansen ou Amundsen, pour n’en citer qu’une poignée parmi les plus illustres, et un hommage principal, en tant que voyageur belge, à notre héros national, commandant de l’expédition Belgica, Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery. Un hommage au chef d’expédition, à son équipage courageux et au robuste navire d’exploration qui après avoir enduré le tout premier hivernage en antarctique ramena au plat pays son équipage, des observations scientifiques sans précédent, un catalogue impressionnant de données biologiques, zoologiques et géographiques, mais aussi une inspirante histoire à transmettre aux générations futures.</em></strong>

<div><strong><em>Cette histoire, je compte la raconter au fil d’un défi physique de près de 4500 km en vélo en solitaire au départ du port d’Anvers, d’où s’est élancée l’expédition de la Belgica le 16 août 1897. Cette aventure sera jalonnée de stops qui font sens – Amsterdam, Hambourg, Copenhague, Oslo – et se terminera en apothéose à Harstad en Norvège avec une plongée symbolique au coeur d’un fjord où git par 20 mètres de fond l’épave de la Belgica.</em></strong>

<div><strong>J'ai fait ce que j'ai pu pour rassembler le budget et l'équipement nécessaire à une telle entreprise, et je poursuis avec acharnement ma formation de plongeur en vue d'une épique plongée sur l'épave de la Belgica, au fil de mon périple à vélo, climax de cette nouvelle aventure. Néanmoins, il me manque encore un peu de matériel, c'est pourquoi votre participation me serait d'une grande aide ! Il s'agit surtout des frais des quelques tournages ponctuels, du matériel de tournage individuel aussi, puisqu'il s'agit d'une expédition en solitaire pour la majeure partie, ainsi qu'encore quelques détails de mon équipement de randonnée. Pour être certain d'avoir un équipement qui me permettra de faire honneur à ces pionniers dont je veux raoconter l'histoire. </strong>

<div>Passionate about cinema, I spent more than 10 years chasing the Hollywood dream of becoming a fiction screenwriter and director. In 2020, I decided to leave cinema behind and go live adventures myself, rather than invent them for imaginary heroes. My readings — Mike Horn, Patrice Franceschi, Sylvain Tesson, Henry de Monfreid, and of course the accounts of the great explorers — pushed me to step beyond my doorstep and embark on my first solo journey: a winter pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela to test my body and strengthen my mind.

<div>During this first journey, I kept a travel journal which I self-published upon my return (Compostelle: From Imagination to Action). In 2022, I confirmed this new path as a travelling writer by taking on two new challenges. First, I went to confront the famous Corsican GR20, but in the heart of winter and alone (Off Season: The GR20 in Winter). Then, in the autumn of that same year, I embarked on my greatest journey to date: kayaking down the Danube, my “<a href="https://youtu.be/0jthKQWtv8U" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Odyssey on the Danube</a>,” from which I created both a new travel narrative and a documentary short film that I am deeply proud of, reconnecting with my love for the seventh art.

<div>In the autumn of 2024, I crossed Greece with a backpack along the forgotten route of the Epirus Trail, renamed the Pindus Trail: 700 km following in the footsteps of shepherds and their flocks, of the resistance fighters of the Second World War — for which the Pindus mountains served as a stage — and beneath the gaze of the Gods of Olympus. Along the way, I climbed two of Greece’s highest summits, Grammos and Smolikas, and visited two of the most sacred sites of Ancient Greece, Dodona and Delphi. A new travel narrative is currently being written under the title Oracle — a deeply spiritual journey in pursuit of the inspiring ghosts of history.

<div><strong>I want to pay tribute to the polar explorers of past centuries through a true pilgrimage across multiple symbolic destinations. Along the way, there will be secondary tributes to great navigators and conquerors of the poles such as Barentsz, Filchner, Rasmussen, Nansen, and Amundsen — to name only a few among the most illustrious — but above all, as a Belgian traveller, a central tribute to our national hero, Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery, commander of the Belgica expedition.</strong>

<div><strong>This will be a tribute to the expedition leader, his courageous crew, and the sturdy exploration vessel which, after enduring the very first overwintering in Antarctica, returned home with unprecedented scientific observations, an impressive collection of biological, zoological, and geographical data, but also an inspiring story to pass on to future generations.</strong>

<div><strong>It is this story that I intend to tell through a nearly 4,500 km solo cycling challenge beginning at the port of Antwerp, from where the Belgica expedition set sail on August 16th, 1897. The journey will be punctuated by meaningful stops — Amsterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Oslo — before culminating in Harstad, Norway, with a symbolic dive into the fjord where the wreck of the Belgica rests 20 meters below the surface.</strong>

<div><strong>I have done everything I can to gather the budget and equipment required for such an undertaking, and I continue to train relentlessly as a diver in preparation for an epic dive to the wreck of the Belgica — the climax of this new adventure during my cycling expedition. Nevertheless, I am still missing part of the necessary equipment, which is why your support would mean so much to me.</strong>
