Undies Books & Batteries In Houston

Donation protected

Howdy, I'm Geoff Moore, a native Texan who grew up on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou in west Houston...the very bayou that has been flooding for the last week in the aftermath of Harvey.

As a current resident of Los Angeles, I've felt somewhat helpless as friends, family, and far too many other Houstonians woke up one morning not knowing that they'd be leaving their living rooms via boat (or jetski) that day, never to return to their home of, in some cases, 50+years.

As a dad, I've been heartbroken to see how many children have been impacted and now lack even the simplest clothing and protection.

As a writer--and those of you who know me well know how painful it was to omit the commas from the space-constricted title above--I have a relatively flexible schedule.

So that's why I've decided to get to Houston later this week and be as helpful as I can for a focused, energetic, three day stint on the ground. I will be flying in to Dallas this Thursday night (9/7) and driving to Houston first thing Friday morning. I need your help filling my vehicle with Undies, Books, & Batteries, items for which several shelters and organizations (including but not limited to NRG and the Houston Food Bank) have expressed a need. I'm starting with a big SUV, but with your kindness I'm hopeful that I'll need to rent a U-Haul.

While your donation is not tax-deductible, it will be 100% utilized for supplies that will directly benefit displaced families, children, and seniors (My personal travel and accommodation are taken care of, and I will close the campaign as I depart Houston on Monday, 9/11). You also will have the benefit of seeing the instant impact of your generosity through pictures and updates. As I continue to make contact with active volunteers or professionals in the thick of things, I anticipate that the scope of our mission together will likely broaden to include items like diapers, hardware supplies, toys, and pet food.

I have been hesitant to solicit assistance, but the outpouring of questions and concerns from friends literally around the world in the past week has convinced me that Dickens was right when he said, "No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another."

I thank you in advance for any help you provide. You will lighten many burdens in the midst of incredible hardship.
