Underneath the sound

Project description from the artist:

What would you do if music was your life and you were losing hearing? What would you hope for if your child was diagnosed with deafness? "Underneath the sound" tells a story of a musician who refuses to lose the passion of his life and of a deaf child who gets his chance to hear with a help of the cochlear implant.

"Underneath the sound" is a narrative short film about hearing loss told through perception of music. We follow the emotional struggle  of a musician as his hearing deteriorates and hear music from his point of view.  We also meet a child whose parents are not aware that their small son has hearing problems and are about to miss the critical moment for his speech development.

This story is based on my personal experience, and with this film I'd like to bring awareness of hearing loss to parents of small children and advocate for the hearing impared person. A distinguished audiologist, Director of Cochlear Implants and Pediatric Audiology Department at Columbia University Medical Center,  helps me with this project.

The film will be narrative, and a big role in the film will be played by music. We have adapted the 7th symphony of Beethoven for several instruments to let the audience experience the perception of sound and music from a point of view of a person who loses hearing.

What do we need funds for?

Audiologist, musical artist, actors and I work for free. With the money raised we will be able to pay for a Cinematographer, Sound mixer, Rent of a Camera, Sound and Light equipment, Locations, Travel expenses for a Main role actor and a little gratitude for the work of our cast.

With your help we could make a beautiful and inspiring movie.

A little bit about my personal story. Here is a photo of my son Artem when we found what he has hearing loss. He just received his Cochlear Implant and started to hear and learn to speak.

And here is Artem when he is in the middle school. He has many friends and speaks two languages.

Musician and actor Pavel Artemiev will play the main character who looses hearing.
