Undergird the Underground Church!

Donation protected
That picture of an antiquated phone I found in a friend's office (my children won't even know what that is!) reminds us that times have really changed and humanity has 'progressed' a lot but there are still countries that haven't changed much--they still wouldn't let Christians live and worship freely.

I came across a perplexing situation and put my neck on the line for an international student in distress from a 'closed country'
. Honestly, I have my own needs to meet and that of the organizations I lead as well but I feel compelled to lay my own challenges aside for her sake. Read her amazing faith journey here  (pages 8 & 9).

Here am I perplexed by the situation of someone who has a burden for the underground church in her country. Anyele and I came across her, let's call her Jun for security reasons, when she qualified to be part of the Lausanne Younger Leaders Gathering in Indonesia last year. We were glad she could make it as someone who has even undergone house arrest where she hails from.  At the time she had just finished her M.Div in the US and transferred into a Th.M, which is the minimum requirement for teaching in academia, hoping to be done this year so she returns to her closed country to strengthen a Church that is growing but needs a good dose of sound doctrine if we are to prevent cancerous growth!

Two weeks ago, her friends and I checked on her to commemorate a year since our first meeting in Indonesia only to casually find out (talk of divine timing!) that Jun is not only in a USD 4,000 deficit but is on the verge of inability to complete her programme by December and return home to make impact because she requires another USD15,000 (CAD 20,000)!! Initially, she was on scholarships that enabled her to complete her M.Div. but apparently most donors will either sponsor an M.Div. (endpoint pastor) or a Ph.D (endpoint professor) but not something like a Th.M which is seen as mid-way. Jun is eager to go home and serve the needy underground church with theological education! The need is urgent and she wants to dive right in (already she waited from 2009 for God to open a door to studies until 2013 when that door finally opened to Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary near Boston).

I am putting my neck on the line to sign a sponsor-affidavit for her to enable her get an extension of her F-1 visa till December but only doing so IN FAITH (or folly!) that the Body of Christ will rise to the occasion and co-raise this USD 15,340 with me on behalf of the underground church of our brothers and sisters in that part of the world. Because of the security-sensitive nature of this and the amount of money involved I feel a deep impression (I trust from the Lord) to target only a handful of Christian leaders, to share this burden/glorious opportunity with, especially those who can give CAD 1,000 or more.  I was hoping to find 20 leaders/couples to give CAD 1,000/USD 770 and I say to the glory of God that between last Thursday 17 August and today Saturday 19 August five couples have  given up to CAD 9,500 already! Hallelujah!

Now, while I continue communicating with the 'big donors' I felt it would be a shame not to share this blessing with the wider body of Christ--anyone who can give their widow's mite like $1 for an infinite return on investment in eternity. I figured if the 5,000 friends I have on FaceBook each gave $1, we could easily raise 33% of the money Jun needs! What an opportunity!

Is this something you could partner me in? Or is there someone you know who can? This is an urgent matter. The harvest is waiting--the equipped harvester shouldn't be held any further!

INVEST to undergird the underground church now for earthly and eternal returns!

For Christ and His glory alone,
Yaw

PS. As of Tuesday 22nd August, 100% of the USD 15,000 needed had come in--a FIVE-DAY miracle! Hallelujah! I have thus reduced the online campaign from $5,000 to $2,000 to pick up any last-minute givers before we round up this campaign by the end of August, DV. Thank you for caring enough for Jun and our underground brothers and sisters!
