We have been working hard with Portsmouth City Council over the last 3 years to find a suitable location.  Although this site is up for redevelopment in the future, until then it is ours...

"We're so happy to find a home for this game-changing community project. It's great that the council have given us this opportunity to fulfil our vision and become the home of Portsmouth skateboarding. However, we've got loads of other exciting plans for how we're going to use this community space, where people of all ages and abilities can come to learn, have fun and be creative." - Jacob Skinner, Founder.

There will be a number of phases to complete to enable us to build our vision.  We are looking into having the skatepark with street plaza and mini ramp, a ramp room, beginners/kids modular obstacles and roller rink.  A Café, shop, spectators seating, creative and exhibition space.  We want to run events and competitions.  This is a community space for all to enjoy.

Cllr Ben Dowling, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Economic Development said, "Jacob’s vision for a creative community hub is so much more than just a skatepark. It’s a much needed facility in an area of the City Centre that has faced challenges and a great example of what we’re trying to encourage going forward. We want our City Centre to evolve with the times and have a fresh buzz about it, offering inclusive and engaging things to do and see and providing social value.”

Our next steps:

- Complete Designs
- Clear the Space
- Reinstate electrics, water, facilities etc
- Ramp Building and building development
- Health and Safety Assessment and Compliance

This is a huge project and lots of help is needed.  We have been offered support from some local businesses but are keen to hear from anyone who feels they can help.

Although we are only asking for 5K at this stage, this is the beginning! We are launching a Crowdfunder soon where we will offer rewards for donations, we are applying for funding streams/grants, looking into CIL funding and working with sponsors to pull this together.

We aim to get in there to start work by the end of the summer and hope to open later this year.

Back Story:
As we know the skateboarding community of Portsmouth, Southsea & surrounding areas, have no undercover facility to go to. We live somewhere it rains very often and while there are a handful of small skateparks around, none of them can be used when the weather is wet.

Skateboarding has been announced to be an Olympic sport. We aim to build a suitable purpose-built facility for day to day use as well as competitions. A great space for all from grass roots learning through to future Olympian training.

While we continue our work, a committee is being formed to work through designs and procedures for the skatepark.  A design team have been appointed and regular meetings are being held with the council and community to make sure we are continuing to push forward.
