I asked my dad what the arrangements for my uncle was going to be. He told me he was going to use his bill money to pay for John's cremation. Makes no sense to me cause he's a vet right? Turns out John never collected a dime from the VA. Years ago when he applied he got denied because they couldn't find his medical records. My Dad told me he spent 18 months in a body cast after his 3rd tour in Vietnam. He was missing half his ear cut off by a machete.He was special ops how convenient his records were lost. He was mad at the system and all these years he wouldn't let my Dad be his voice. He lived on Medicare and food stamps. How does this happen with 3 purple hearts a silver Star and a bronze star. Yet he stilled loved his country and for years helped along side my Dad counseling kids. The story of John Vance like so many other vets needs to be told.
