A Home of Their Own

Donation protected
The journey my friends Don and Wanda have traveled the last 4 years has been harrowing, and they truly need your help.

While they began to build a modest 930 square foot home, Don and Wanda decided to live in sparse uncomfortable conditions to save money and build only portions of the home as they could afford.

They began living in a 1979 20-foot camper. To make the space more livable, Don cut out a wall of the camper for a 5x8 make-shift kitchen with only a 2-gallon water heater and cut out another wall for a small room .

Then tragedy struck. He had a massive stroke, was airlifted to a hospital, had very traumatic, risky brain surgery, suffered seizures and many more setbacks and challenges.

He is mostly bedridden except for short periods of time in a wheelchair. Wanda has only her husband’s wheelchair to sit in to eat her meals, watch over him, and take a rest to read.

With his medical condition, living conditions became very problematic because the only source of heat in the camper is an electric space heater, and the camper has no bathroom.
In an unheated barn, 50 feet from the camper, there is a small bathroom that is not handicapped accessible. Their washer and dryer are also located in the barn.

Their living situation makes daily chores extraordinarily burdensome, especially during the winter. Carrying wet clothes and urine-soaked linens outside daily is a daunting task. Trying to keep Don warm and his room just to 60 degrees is a struggle. With the hospital bed, tray table, and wheelchair, it is very difficult to have room to adequately move around to do basic care.

Please help us by donating what you can so their home can be finished!

If only 800 people donate $100 each, this goal could easily be fulfilled.

As of now, the basement and slab are there, with a septic system that has been approved. With your help, Don and Wanda will have a safe, warm, comfortable home that is handicapped-accessible.

Please share this story with your friends on Facebook and any other way you can to help this deserving family finish their home.
