Our daughter Katie is a senior in high school. She has been diagnosed with stage 3 Cancer. It has been very hard on her both mentally and physically.
She started to feel ill before Christmas and went to the emergency room. They did several tests and they found a "pelvic mass". We were referred to a specialist and went to the appointment the next day, more tests and bloodwork. She was referred to a gynecology oncologist. Her first appointment date with her new doctor was on January 2nd. The doctor saw her and went over all the test results and immediately scheduled her for surgery that day. The tumor they removed was very large. We spent several days at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and then came home.
On January 17th, we had her 2 week post-op follow up appointment. It didn't go as well as we had hoped. They told us that the cancer had spread and that she will have to do several rounds of chemotherapy and other therapies.
This has really blind-sided us. In the last month our lives have been upturned and thrown into chaos. At this time, any help that people could give would be very appreciated. The treatment and medicines, travel (the hospital is several hours away), personal needs, expected and unexpected costs will be significant and we are also asking for prayers, positive thoughts and good vibes.
