Il est 5h du matin.

La chambre d’hôtel est silencieuse. Brendan dort enfin, épuisé par les examens de la veille à Québec.

Je le regarde respirer.

Je me demande toujours si les traitements vont fonctionner.

Je me demande combien de combats il devra encore mener à son âge.

Brendan est un enfant courageux. Il vit avec une maladie neurologique complexe qui exige des suivis spécialisés réguliers à Québec. Chaque rendez-vous est essentiel. Chaque déplacement est nécessaire.

Mais chaque déplacement coûte cher.

Hôtel.

Essence.

Stationnement.

Repas.

Et parfois, je me demande comment je vais y arriver.

 Notre plus grande insécurité

Nous avons reçu 46 refus de logement.

Quarante-six fois on nous a dit non.

Parce qu’il est en fauteuil roulant.

Parce que ce n’est pas adapté.

Parce que ça “complique”.

Ce n’est pas seulement un refus.

C’est l’impression que mon enfant dérange.

Brendan a besoin d’un espace adapté pour circuler librement.

Il a besoin d’une salle de bain sécuritaire.

Il a besoin d’un environnement stable pour protéger sa santé fragile.

Et moi, je vis aussi avec une maladie chronique qui limite mes forces physiques. Mais une maman ne s’arrête pas. Même quand son corps voudrait.

 Notre rêve

Nous ne demandons pas le luxe.

Nous demandons la stabilité.

Une maison adaptée.

Une rampe pour qu’il puisse entrer sans obstacle.

Des portes assez larges pour son fauteuil.

Un endroit où il pourra grandir sans que je craigne qu’on doive repartir encore.

• Les frais d’hôtel, d’essence et de nourriture lors des rendez-vous médicaux à Québec
