Montana's BLSA Scholarship Fundraiser

Montana's Black Law Students Association (MBLSA) welcomes your donation and support of our newly established chapter. Under the spirit of unity and justice, Montana's Black Law Students Association was revived in 2020 after years of abeyance at the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the University of Montana. Through scholarship and leadership development, we aim to increase the number of culturally responsible Black and minority attorneys who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact Montana and the legal community.
A primary revival goal included establishing a scholarship program for students of color, especially aspiring Black lawyers. Donations help fund scholarships for qualifying law school, undergraduate, and high school students pursuing legal education in Montana. Thus, reducing costs for books, laptops, BAR prep-courses, and test costs.
We strive to create a community where law students receive valuable insight from experienced legal professionals. We've hosted a variety of discussions which included Community Supervision following incarceration. The conversation included Marlon Washington, Marin County California's Chief Probation Officer; Arthur Rizer, Director of Criminal Justice and Civil Liberties Policy for the R Street Institute; and Kristina Lucero, a Public Defender and Montana Pardons and Parole Boardmember.
A report by the American Bar Association in 2019 shows that Black law students represented just 7.94% of law students enrolled in ABA-accredited law schools. By donating to MBLSA, you will directly support the movement towards improving these numbers, specifically in Montana.
A portion of funds raised by this campaign will help offset marketing and event costs associated with the 2021 Scholarship Golf Tournament, where we intend to announce the 2021 awardees. If you have any questions, please email: montanablsa at gmail dot com.
