Welcome!

The African Canadian Christian Network’s (ACCN) Robotics team UMOJA is competing in the 2021 First Robotics Competition and we need your help.  With COVID-19 preventing us from in-person meetings, we are pursuing the Game Design Challenge, which is an opportunity for teams to design a FIRST Robotics Competition game and compete against other teams for a chance to pitch their game to the FIRST Robotics Competition Game Design Team.

We are seeking financial support to cover expenses associated with this season.

First Robotics is teaming with Disney and Lucasfilm for this season entitled FIRST GAME CHANGERS powered by Star Wars: Force for Change!

ACCN created the first and only black robotics community teams in Canada to compete in a First Robotics competition, to whet the appetites of our young people in our community for Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM).  Its creation was in response to the fact that our young people are under-represented at the STEM table, and as such, will not be in the pipeline when employers are looking for such skill sets in potential employees.  ACCN wants to create equitable spaces for these young people and dismantle systems that are barriers to their success.

We want to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

We invite you to become part of this incredible journey as we teach them technical skills, and life skills that will go beyond the classrooms.  Your generosity will enable these hard-working boys and girls to compete with pride, while benefiting from a life changing experience in this epic event. Your support through this GoFundMe page is a huge investment in their lives.

It all began when…

In 2018, with support from First Robotics Canada (FRC) and Ryerson University, the African Canadian Christian Network (ACCN), created a Robotics team and called it ACCN Techtronix.

In 2019, encouraged by the success of the award-winning Techtronix, and with the support of FRC and the University of Toronto Scarborough, the ACCN created another black Community team.  The new team UMOJA, FRC team 7712, allowed a platform for more young people to become involved in Robotics.

Our success over the years was made possible by caring people like you, and now, several past students are pursuing some form of engineering at universities in Canada.

We thank you for your kind consideration and appreciate your valuable contributions in support of this amazing venture as together, we write history.

UMOJA is a Swahili word for unity.  In this spirit, 30 team members come from across the Greater Toronto Area to attend classes and work on their robot at the Lassonde School of Engineering and York University.

Our goal: Our goal: We are working to qualify for the Ontario Provincial Championship and the World Championship.

We are promoting equity, enlarging our youths’ vision for their future, and giving them the confidence to know that they belong.

Our Request: We need your help to raise funds to continue our work with these amazing young people.

We are grateful for any amount you can give.

Please donate!

Thank you.
