In 2019 the team took in at least 360 sick or injured hogs at the rescue centre from all over the county and through the efforts of Denise and her team successfully managed to release or re-home around 330 back into the wild
One of the obvious advantages of a small animal ultrasound scanner is that it will quickly and easily allow us to check for pregnancy’s with female hogs when they arrive at the centre. This will ensure that we can safely administer the correct medicine to the female hog and protect any unborn hogs from being aborted
Hedgehogs are brought to the centre on a regular basis suffering injuries including broken limbs, maggot infestation from wounds, garden strimmer incidents or attacks from other animals such as cats
Did you know that Hedgehog numbers are falling on a frequent basis and their numbers have now fallen below one million in the UK down by 30% in just over ten years.
We fully appreciate that a small animal ultrasound scanner is not cheap and there will also be other costs involved such as the training of team members to work effectively with this as well as other ongoing maintenance costs, we are therefore asking friends, family and members of the public to help us raise this purchase.
Being able to save baby hogs and introduce them into the wild will be an enormous help to the ecology of the UK and will only help to further promote their numbers in the UK
