Running London Marathon 2022 for UKSCF

I know I said I wouldn’t ask for your help again, but for those who don’t know, my name was drawn out of the hat and I got a ballot place to run the London Marathon!! At that time training for another marathon was the last thing on my mind, so much so I almost declined my place.

I didn’t, so I will now be running my fourth marathon on 2nd October. I foolishly believed that training couldn’t get any tougher but this time round it has been unbelievably hard for so many reasons, particularly affects of COVID, working for the NHS and training through the relentless heat of this summer .

I had always planned for this to be my Non charity ‘Cutty Sark’ run, the marathon where I actually remember to look up so I see it (missed it twice - no one told me it was up on a plinth!) without the added pressure of raising a huge target for charity.

Further to the fabulous news last week that after all these years my brother has finally been fully discharged from further cancer/stem cell transplant surveillance. My conscience won’t let me run without trying to raise a pound or two for the charity close to my heart The UK Stem Cell Foundation UKSCF, I will be their only runner this year!

Without Stem Cell research he wouldn’t be here now and knowing that my stem cell donation enabled him to make that call to me, I feel truly overjoyed and extremely proud, especially of him who battled his disease with dignity and strength throughout his 8+ year battle.

I never thought cancer would happen to my family, but it doesn’t care who you are.

Research enables progress and the only pathway to a cure.

I know it’s really tough out there with the huge cost of living rise and a Chancellor who can’t add up, but anything you can spare will definitely be put to good use.
