Sarah Slimp (17) from Washington, D.C., is raising money through her photo exhibition to donate to the Ukrainian organization "For the Right to Life.”
For the Right to Life is a charitable organization in Ukraine that provides therapy and counselling for young kids that suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of the war in Donbas, Ukraine. Specifically, For the Right to Life puts on a camp each summer in Pokrova, on a remote spit of land in the Black Sea just south of Ochakiv, Ukraine, with psychological specialists to provide support and rehabilitation for the kids, many who have lost friends, family and their homes. However, the organization does not receive any type of funding from any government or other nonprofits. Their only source of funding is through donations.
Over the summer, Sarah was lucky enough to go to the camp herself to spend time with the children and to photograph them for her Advanced Placement Photography class. She could see how beneficial the camp was to these children and why it was so important that the camp remain funded so that more children, who are suffering from the conflict in Ukraine, can receive the emotional attention they need.
For a two week counselor-led camp in Pokrova, it costs approximately $7,500 to host 30 children. Of course, that is her goal, but any amount of money will help.
She intends to wire the money directly to the organization through GoFundMe.
