UKirk South Alabama: Intentional Community

Donation protected

UKirk South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama creates a spiritual home for college students who desire a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming worshiping community where they can freely cultivate a lifelong personal faith in God.

We are seeking to accomplish a bold possibility for the UKirk community. While the ministry is thriving, we are looking for a way for the ministry to become sustainable. We would like to have a community center - a welcoming space for students that is permanent and close to campus. We hope to have a space for other organizations with similar values to use as they desire and need. The community center would also help us continue and deepen our feeding ministry. A kitchen to serve meals on a regular basis to students that are food insecure is one of the most important services UKirk provides.

We also hope to provide affordable housing for students through a tiny house intentional community. This intentional community is a place where all students, no matter their background, can feel affirmed and loved. We hope to connect the students who are part of our intentional community with community partnerships in Mobile.

The income from the intentional community will help keep the building running and the UKirk programs going - its survival would not depend on perpetual fundraising.

We are reaching out for help because we are racing the clock. In order to have the space open by Fall of 2020, we have to raise the initial funding by the end of May - $400,000. Instead of only asking a few people to donate large amounts, we are asking as many people as possible to share and donate a small amount of $20 if they support our cause. That's right! That's 20,000 people we hope to spread the word to.

This project will be an example of how many people from all over the nation can believe in something great like a welcoming and affirming ministry in the deep South, and help can make a home for this community with a small donation.

UKirk South Alabama is a special ministry where students can feel the love of God no matter their gender, race, sexual identity, religious background, or physical ability. Through UKirk we're showing a narrative of love and acceptance, basic needs are being met, interfaith relationships are nurtured, and students find a supportive and loving community during a transitional time in their lives.

We thank you in advance for helping us spread the word and supporting the students that UKirk serves.

**If funding cannot be raised in time to meet the deadline for the building project, UKirk will use the funding collected to continue the ministry's mission of serving students in the Mobile area by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
