中美貿易戰、送中、立會香港旗、英國黨選、中國偷竊英國知識財產、威脅英國國家安全 —— 現時多樣因素加埋令中英關係持續緊張,令英國對《中英聯合聲明》產生前所未有嘅關注

We are a group of concerned Hongkongers who are raising funds for an advertising campaign on major British papers across the entire political spectrum and digital advertising platforms. Our goal is to raise the awareness of China's continued breaches of the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration. By doing so, we hope to facilitate the policymaking that will help both the United Kingdom and the Hongkongers.

Our original LIHKG post (in Chinese)

In view of the obligations under the Sino-British Joint Declaration, human rights, and financial interests of the UK, we pin our hopes on the British Government and the public to scrutinize China’s constant breach of the Sino-British Joint Declaration and offer their hands to the Hong Kong people. We hope the British public and the government would render assistance on the following goals:

- To address the Chinese government of her breaches on the Sino-British Joint Declaration

- To fight against white terror in Hong Kong

- To urge the Hong Kong government to fulfill our five major requests

- To reclaim our political rights and freedom of expression

- To establish Universal Suffrage

There are numerous factors affecting the Anglo-Chinese relations, including the US-China trade war, the Extradition Bill, the display of the British Hong Kong colonial flag in the Legislative Council, the theft of British intellectual property by China and the threatening of UK’s national security. All of these events lead to the UK’s unprecedented attention to the Sino-British Joint Declaration.

These concerns echo across the Atlantic. On the shore beyond, the US Congress is pushing for the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act in an effort to assist Hongkongers in their cause.

The Sino-British Joint Declaration is an international treaty which guarantees that the social and economic systems in Hong Kong will remain unchanged, Hongkongers’ lifestyle, rights and freedoms will be preserved for 50 years after the handover in 1997. However, this bilateral treaty was breached repeatedly by the Chinese after the handover, and the situation is exacerbating with the proposal of the extradition bill currently.

Although the Sino-British Joint Declaration does not exactly state what the UK could do when China breaches it, it could also mean that the UK has the freedom to choose her cards.

For the past month, we have been fighting this anti-extradition bill uphill battle relentlessly with the belief that even the smallest steps could make a big difference.

Hongkongers have performed miracles time and again. Shall we strive to bring the Sino-British Joint Declaration back under the spotlight, no matter how slim a chance it seems?

If you also believe what we are doing is effective, what we are doing is for the good of Hong Kong and the UK, please contribute to this crowdfunding campaign. Thank you very much for your support.

Q: What if the crowdfunding target is not met?
A: We will adjust the scale of the campaign and focus only on the essential news/media platforms.

Q: What will be the supervisory system?
A: We have accountants and lawyers in our team to monitor the account.

Notes on our campaign fund flow:

Since GoFundMe isn't yet able to send funds directly to Hong Kong, the beneficiary of the campaign will be a UK volunteer's personal account. Meanwhile, since the transfer process would take several days, we have a Hong Kong volunteer who would pre-pay the campaign expenses out of her/his personal funds. Finally, the UK volunteer would transfer all funds to the HK volunteer, for reimbursement. If there is any remaining balance of the campaign, the HK volunteer will donate the remaining balance to 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund. As usual, our fund flow and expenses will be properly documented by our accountant and submitted for an external independent audit.
