As most of you know my father has been through a lot since my mother passed away in 2011. He is at the VA hospital in Martinsburg WV. He is a proud Vietnam vet who served his country and his family.
I've been his caregiver for the past few years and found out that his life insurance policies lapsed in 2013.
3 weeks ago he had surgery where something went wrong and he hasnt been able to speak since. All his systems began failing from his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. The doctors can not figure out what went wrong or how to cure him. He has not been able to eat or drink since early last week. The doctors can not feed him without a feeding tube. His Living Will prevents anything more than simple nutrition. The doctors have exhausted all the options to continue trying to cure him and informed us we need move him to hospice and provide him comfort care to ensure he isnt in pain and allow him to pass with dignity.
The VA will reimburse some of the costs and from what the funeral home said it's minimal - around $750.
It's embarrassing to ask anyone for any financial help but I want to ensure I can give provide my father with a proper service he deserves.
I'd be more than happy to send you back anything the VA reimburses since I know most of us are on a tight budget. I asked the cemetary to allow me to make payment arangements but I was informed that wasnt an option and all costs are need at time of the service. I'm out of options and truly appreciate everything.
