Kimani Griffin's Olympic Support

Donation protected
Griffin is a classically trained guitarist who has performed on NPR's From The Top: Live at Carnegie Hall (age 17), given a solo concert in Cervo, Italy (age 18) and has won numerous domestic and international solo guitar competitions. After attending two years of college at Colombus State University in Georgia on a full music scholarship Griffin decided to move to Salt Lake City to train Long Track Speedskating full time in 2010.

Kimani Griffin made his first Olympic team by finishing third in the men's 500m event at the 2018 US Olympic Speedskating trials, held earlier this month in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Griffin will travel to Pyeongchang, South Korea for the winter games and he needs your support to help fund his journey. Funds raised will be donated to Kimani for any travel related expenses.

Kimani has always been surrounded by a small, close knit family. After his father left at age 7, he was raised by his single mother, Pam Griffin. She has been the key ingredient to Kimani's success and his financial support for over 20 years. Unfortunately, health and phobia issues limit his mother's ability to travel internationally and she will not be able to attend the Olympic games. His grandmother, who has played an integral role in his growth and skating career, recently turned 92 years old and is unable to travel away from her home. Griffin's uncle is a full time caretaker of his wife, who has battled illness and life threatening diseases for over 30 years. This leaves Kimani with one last family member, his cousin, who recently got married (Fall 2017) and is unable to afford a trip to the Olympics for him and his wife. With his immediate family members unable to travel and watch their son/grandson/nephew/cousin represent Team USA in Pyeongchang, South Korea, it becomes critically important for Kimani to have any support present at the Olympics.

Griffin has always thrived on the love and support of his friends and family. By only having contact with his mother's side of the family, Griffin learned the importance of his family members being an essential building block to the puzzle of life. Despite living in Salt Lake City, UT for the past 8 years by himself, Griffin remains in constant contact with family back east. Faced with the challenge of not having any family at Olympic trials, Griffin overcame and stated, "it would mean the world to me to not have to complete this journey alone. I would love to have at least one loved one physically there with me in Korea to share in the moment. I want to at least know someone I love is watching me from inside the stadium."

“Thank you for your time and energy towards supporting my dreams and aspirations. I look forward to representing you as a member of Team USA. Go Red, White, and Blue!”

Experts estimate an individual package trip for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea to cost $5,000-$8,000. Any contribution you can make towards Kimani’s Olympic Support has a direct impact on your USA Olympic Athlete, Kimani Griffin, and his success at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
