Rebuilding for the Aguon Bunch

Tragedy can strike at any given moment, no one plans for such an emergency. Yet even when one thinks we have done everything to protect and ensure our kids are safe, accidents happen. Last night, a faulty water heater caused our house to catch on fire. Our neighbor, who I will call our angel from now on, smelled the smoke and woke us up to make sure we got out safe. (Our smoke alarms for some reason never went off). The fire inspector told us that if we wouldn't have gotten out when we did the fire would have spread to attic and the ceiling would have collapse on us while we slept.
Our family is a modern day blend of mine, yours is now OURS. We have in total 6 kids who we care for and now are homeless only a few days from the school year starting. Normally I wouldn't think about asking for help but I feel completely reponsible for the reason that we kept putting off buying home insurance because things kept coming up and like I said, no one ever thinks this could happen to them. Well, it did, and it's not their fault that we neglected to ensure their home would be insured against any and all accidents. The damage to our home was confined to only two rooms and attic (restroom and laundry room) but the extent of the damage is due to water pipe breaking so now the whole house will need new floors and a new ceiling and any furniture that got destroyed due to water damage. I understand that even though the fire was an accident the damages and aftermath could have been made easier if we would have not let the home insurance lapse and that's is why I'm full of guilt. It's never easy to ask for help from others but in this instance, I feel obligated to ask for any help so that our kids can have a home again.
