UIC-GEO is the Union that represents Teaching and Graduate Assistants in the University of Illinois at Chicago. For the past year we have been negotiating our new contract with the university administrators but we have seen limited progress.
We are still fighting for:
- Better wages
- Fee elimination
- And increased protections for survivors of discrimination, harassment, workplace bullying, and sexual assault
Between March 31 and April 1, over 3/4 of our membership voted overwhelmingly in favor of authorizing a strike. We have now called for a strike.
We believe that Graduate School is hard work and we are here for it. But it shouldn't be made harder by financial anxiety. We don't make a living wage, and the university claws back what little they give us through onerous fees. We teach the classes and do the research that makes UIC one of the top Universities in Illinois. #UICWorksBecauseWeDo!
We believe that Graduate School is for everyone, but our current working conditions discourage people from pursuing higher education, especially those that don't come from a privileged background and those who have experienced harassment and assault.
We are #StrikeReady!
Help us fight the administration and make changes that will make higher education more equitable and benefit the entire UIC community by donating to our Strike Fund.
