Uhl Family Medical Support Fund

On August 1, 2018, our mom, Christy Uhl, suffered a minor stroke. As a precaution, she was taken to Adventist Health in Sonora to evaluate the cause of the event. After several hours, it became apparent that something more serious was going on as she was losing coordination and ability to express her thoughts clearly. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto to be evaluated further by a neurologist. There it was discovered that she had numerous blood clots in her lungs and neck. These required immediate treatment with an aggressive blood thinner, which brought with it many risks. Unfortunately, the blood thinner dislodged one of the clots in her neck and it traveled to her brain, causing a massive bleed that nearly took her life.

Fortunately, the surgical team at Memorial was able to repair the bleed, but the damage remains. She spent two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit under constant medical supervision, and three more in Acute Care. Now she is in the main hospital waiting for approval to be transferred to a rehabilitation center where she can be given intense physical therapy. She has only been able to speak for about a week, but is very determined to walk again.

In order for her to have access to the therapy she needs to hopefully become independent again, we must be able to pay our insurance copay to cover hospital costs. Until then, she will only receive about 30 minutes of therapy per day; nowhere near enough to regain what she needs to in order to come home.

We are hoping to raise this money as quickly as possible. The sooner she can start therapy, the better chance she has of recovering from the damage done by the bleed. This could be what determines whether she will one day be independent.

If you are unable to donate monetarily but would still like to help, please contact Cheyenne or Bert. We are often in need of meals or transportation for the younger kids. Any excess funds will be used to modify the home to support her care after rehabilitation.

Thank you for those of you who have already helped us and continue to do so. We have felt the overwhelming support of our community and when we tell mom about it she smiles and tells us to tell everyone she appreciates it.
