Jason’s Cancer Treatment

Late July of this year I went to a minor emergency clinic seeking relief from a kidney stone. The doctor recommended I have a CT scan done to see where the stone was located. A few hours after the scans were completed the Dr called me back to let me know that there was indeed a rather large stone nearing my bladder. She also stated that there were some very suspicious nodules in my abdomen that indicated that I had some type of cancer. This started a series of more visits to Grandview Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama to see an Oncologist, have an endoscopy, a colonoscopy, and an appendectomy. After all of this it was determined that I have stage 4 colon cancer. I am about to begin my 4th round of chemo and the plan is to do a total of 8 rounds to shrink the tumors before going through with surgery. The surgery that is proposed is called cytoreductive, which means they will go in and remove all cancer that can be seen, to include partial removal of the colon, stomach, etc. Immediately after the surgery I will undergo a HIPEC procedure where they will pump a warmed chemo solution into my abdominal cavity for approximately 90 minutes. These 2 procedures will be performed at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in North Carolina. 

While I do have medical insurance there are still some large out of pocket expenses as well as travel expenses that we simply can’t afford to shoulder at this time. I am only able to work part time at best and following the surgery I would be unable to work for up to 3 months. Any help and support you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jason.
