Ugandan Adventures

For the last 4 years, Sophie and a group of friends have used their desire for service to raise money and collect needed items for HEED Uganda. HEED stands for Help, Equip, Evangelize and Desciple, www.heeduganda.org and is an organization founded about 12 years ago by a local Edmonds resident, Julie. Julie and her team have worked in the tiny village of Kyakitanga (chach-tong-ga) where they support the education of hundreds of young people and also work towards improving water sanitation, food and income availability, spiritual growth and health to the village.
In their effort to give to HEED, Sophie and friends, assisted by "the moms," have made and sold loom band crafts, fleece tie pillows, lemonade and lots of bake sale items. They have also hosted outdoor movie nights the last 2 summers. In total, they have raised just over $15,000 that has helped frame the walls on the secondary school, provide needed parts for a water pump and supported the community in other ways. They have also collected shoes, flip flops, tooth brushes and health room supplies.
After all of this work, we have decided that it is time for US to visit Kyakitanga, Uganda, see where this effort has gone and serve the kids and school directly (for a very short time). We will be traveling at the beginning of April and will be gone for about 2 weeks. Any funds donated will go to off set the cost of our airfair, ground travel and daily expenses (so we will not be a drain on the resources of the village).
If you would like to support us in what I know will be a life changing adventure, it would be greatly appreciated. We would also love your prayers for safe travels and changed hearts and lives.
