Uganda 2017

Dear Friends and Family,

I am excited to announce that the Lord has opened the door for me to serve Him in Uganda this coming fall! This trip will be unlike any other trip I have had the ability to experience.  At the beginning of this year, I had the opportunity to serve on a medical mission team. Our focus was to provide as much medical treatment to the hurting and poverty stricken of Uganda, while also sharing the good news of the Gospel and praying for every single individual that came to us for help. By God’s divine and supreme grace, we were able to see and treat thousands of people, many of whom claimed that they were Muslim by decent. I remember being awaken from sleep at 5 am several mornings of our stay, by the Muslim call to prayer. It rang very loudly over the city of Kampala and it drove me to pray for those people who were blindly living in bondage. Fast forward a couple of months, and the Lord opened the door for me to return to Uganda with my dear friend Amy Compston (vice president of the Amy for Africa organization). We spent two weeks holding conferences, crusades and discipleship training for the growth of God’s Kingdom and the furtherance of the Gospel. I must admit, this trip taught me what it means to persevere in the midst of trials and tribulation. I struggled daily to have the right heart and to focus on God’s plan and His will as opposed to my own. But, I am truly thankful to God for this experience because I have now been able to experience Him on a whole new level. God has taught me that even when we are discouraged and don’t “feel” Him moving in our lives, He desires that we remain faithful to Him knowing that “suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Romans 5:3-5). I have returned with a new perspective on God and the desire He has for us to know Him.

Prior to traveling with Amy in July, God laid it on my heart to serve Him in Uganda for an extended amount of time. I then started praying that He would make His will evident to me by opening the door for me to go and live among the people of Uganda for at least three months, while also serving Him in whatever means He would supply. I am truly delighted to announce that He has answered my prayer! The Lord has made a way for me to assist my dear friend and sister in Christ, Bobby Bowen, in the start of her life as a full-time missionary to Jinja, Uganda. Bobby came to me early in the year requesting that I prayerfully consider joining her on a three month stay where I would help her start this new chapter of her life. We have made plans to serve from October 16, 2017 through January 17, 2018. Our focus will be extending the compassion of Jesus Christ through evangelism, discipleship, family help, and providing food and medical supplies to those who are in need. There are many children and young, unwed, pregnant teens in the area she will be moving to, who need the love of Jesus poured over their lives. Bobby and I will also be partnering with the “Silent Whispers” in Jinja, which focus on providing help to those who are experiencing severe poverty in the ghetto of Jinja. Although I do not know what God’s plan is for my life at this time, I know that He has placed Uganda on my heart and I desire to follow Him there. I ask that you would please be in prayer for this trip because we know that there will be opposition. We have faith, and truly believe that God is calling us to serve Him in this way. Again, I ask that you will be in prayer for Bobby and I as we seek the Lord’s guidance in this. I would also ask that you would prayerfully consider supporting me financially on this trip. My individual needs for this trip total $6,000 which I will need by October 8th. Again, I ask that this will be prayerfully considered. If you feel the Lord leading you to serve in this way, you can give in two ways: mail a check to 1166 County Road 55 Ironton, Ohio 45638, or go online and give safely and securely to my GoFund Me account. Thank you in advance for your prayers and your support!
