“Anything.” This is my word and prayer for 2018, that I would be willing to do anything the Lord has called me to. I want to willingly and boldly step out in faith and do what He asks. I am currently in my junior year at Wheaton College, and throughout my time here, the Lord has not ceased to provide me with incredible relationships and opportunities. One of which being this summer, when I will go to Jinja, Uganda on a medical mission trip.
In June, Aaron (my boyfriend) and I will be heading to Uganda for a month. We will be staying with some good family friends, Dave and Julie Ayer. Dave is a pediatrician and founder of the ministry Islands of Hope, and they have lived in Africa for the last six years working for Global Outreach International. The Ayers have graciously invited us to join them for a month so Aaron and I can get a glimpse into what life looks like as a medical missionary. Throughout our time we will be involved with a few different mission organizations in order to get a well rounded view of Ugandan life. First, will be the Ayer’s ministry: Islands of Hope, which involves traveling via boat to the Buvuma Islands of Lake Victoria to provide medical care to families living there; many of them do not have access to fresh water or toilets. Next, will be Soft Power Health, an organization that seeks to care for and educate people affected by malaria. Third, we will spend a week at CURE, a children’s hospital specializing in neurosurgery. After that we will work with Sole Hope, which cares for people with foot parasites by providing medical care and shoes. Finally, we will spend time with Dave in the hospital where he works.
Both Aaron and I have seriously discussed missions as a part of our future; therefore, we are looking forward to this opportunity to experience a little taste of what medical missions could look like. In order to get there, we need your support. First and foremost, your prayers!! Prayers for travels, safety, health, and open hearts to what the Lord will be teaching and showing us. Secondly, we need to raise $4,500 each; our expenses include airfare, transportation, food, and lodging. All of the money donated will be used toward our trip, and if there is any money leftover we will donate it to one of these Ugandan ministries.
If you are able to support us financially, we would greatly appreciate it! If you are willing to support us in prayer and would like to be included on our email update list, please send me a text or Facebook message with your email address so we can keep you posted throughout our trip. Thank you for your love and support!
