Help Get Julia's Big Heart To The Mayo Clinic

My Name is Rebecca Mason, I am leading the efforts for the Julia's big heart fundraising, I am the Aunt of Julia Genaille.

Julia was born and raised in Regina , she is an 18 year old recent high school graduate. Julia has always been an outgoing, friendly and hardworking member of her community, now she needs our help. In October of 2014, Julia was diagnosed with a very rare heart disease called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, This is in layman's terms is an enlarged heart. In February of 2015 Julia had an AICD implanted in her heart, and until recently was having no symptoms of the disease. Earlier this year she started experiencing severe symptoms and has gone from simply having a heart disease to being in stage 3 heart failure. She and her Mom Jessica have been travelling to Calgary to see specialists for tests, and treatments to try and alleviate her symptoms. however she has unfortunately reached a point in her illness where surgical intervention is her only option. Julia has successfully undergone every test and treatment offered in Canada. and has now been accepted as a patient of the World-renowned Mayo-Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. The surgery they propose is an invasive open-heart procedure to remove the thickened muscle in the apex of the left ventricle, This is to slow the progression of the disease and delay the need of a heart transplant. The surgery at the Mayo-clinic is an absolute necessity to allow Julia the chance of a symptom free, pain free, medication free chance at a normal life. Unfortunately, this is not a cure for HCM and ultimately a heart transplant will be a necessity as well, however this surgery can prolong the need for transplant for as long as possible.

I am writing to you all today to ask for your support in our efforts to care for Julia. Julia's specialists in Saskatchewan and Alberta have applied for health coverage from Saskatchewan Health and have been approved! Julia and her Mom will be travelling to the mayo clinic as soon as we raise enough funds to pay for their travel and accommodations. We are humbly asking for donations to alleviate the cost that they will be dealt with being outside of Canada. All funds collected will be used for this trip to the mayo clinic along with costs related to Julia's future treatments and travel to the cardiac clinic in Calgary.
