Fighting Cancer

My wife, Cynthia, was diagnosed with colon cancer in July of 2019. Within a month, she had to have surgery to remove the tumor, have a bowel resection, and then have a chemo port installed when lymph nodes and a subsequent PET scan showed the cancer had affected her liver as well. In the past two years, she has underwent IV chemotherapy from Sept 2019 to Feb 2020 and then radiation treatment in Sept and Oct of 2020. All the while she has remained on chemo pills. Unfortunately the lesions are still present and she is resuming IV chemotherapy (March 2021). Worst still, the lesions caused her to suffer from jaundice six weeks ago and she had to be admitted to the hospital twice then undergo a stent implant. A bottle of the at home chemo pills needed every three weeks costs us $600. I can't see how anyone without insurance could face these types of bills considering what we have been left with ourselves.

Needless to say, as teachers we are way past our ability to pay the bills. Just this week, some of the bills related to the radiation treatment started rolling in with a hospital bill topping the list at $11,000. We are still paying for the first procedures associated with her initial surgeries and treatment and prior to the radiation had accumulated nearly $20,000. Now reality hits even harder with the new bills and the recent hospital bills, stent surgery, and upcoming chemotherapy loom ahead. Overwhelmed is an understatement.

We have two boys, Trace 9 and Sean 3, who are the light of our lives. No matter the cost, this fight will go on for them. It has been an emotional as well as physical battle for Cynthia, but the boys bring things into focus for us. Any help is greatly appreciated, whether it be financial or simply prayers.
