My name is Christine Starke and I have been helping my husband fight an ogliodendriogioma for the last 23 years. We have 5 children. My son Gharet (22), Aspen (20), Bohdan (12), and the twins Max and Will (8). We all work together to ensure that Matt can live to the fullest.
In 1996 while serving our Country as a Navy SEAL stationed at SDVT-1, Matt learned he had an ogliodendriogioma (cancerous brain tumor.) After undergoing surgery to remove as much as the tumor as possible, Matt was left temporarily paralyzed from the neck down, and was riddled with seizures. After rigorous therapy, Matt learned how to walk and talk again. By 2004 the tumor had spread to the majority of Matt's brain. In the years since, he has undergone radiation and chemotherapy treatment leaving him sick and weak, and continually affecting his quality of life.
Back in July 2019 Matt unfortunately had a seizure putting him in a coma. The doctors told us he was brain dead and there was nothing more that could be done, but Matt again did the impossible. He started breathing on his own and squeezing our hands, so we took him home. We don’t let this unfortunate occurrence slow us down, we make sure Matt is included in everything we do.
Right now we need all the help we can get in the fight for Matt's life, so we can continue living life to the fullest. Thank you for your support, the Starke Family.
