Laptops for Refugee Children in Need

Direct provision is a system of asylum seeker accommodation used in the republic of Ireland. It is a means of meeting the basic needs of food and shelter for asylum seekers, while their claims for refugee status are being processed.

 

Tusla - Child and Family Agency is the dedicated State agency responsible for improving wellbeing and outcomes for children and families in Ireland. Tusla works with the children and young people in Direct Provision. Their mission is to improve the health and social care provided to children, young people and families in Direct Provision, and to provide key child and family support to individuals in need. 

 

Children housed in direct provision are in need of our support.  As of March 13th the children housed in direct provision in Wicklow have not had access to school. They have also been limited in their ability to continue their studies at home due to their living conditions and lack of access to the computers and the internet. 


Lack of access to education has enormous long term negative consequences - limited access to education as a child can have knock on effects for the rest of someone’s life. Irrespective of race, creed, and gender, education makes it possible for people to stand out as equal with all the other persons from different walks of life.

 

We want to help supply laptops and necessary equipment for the 120 children housed in  direct provision in Wicklow so that they can continue their education.

 

We are aiming to raise a minimum of €10,000 to purchase laptops for these 120 children between now and June 12th. 


Whatever you can give will help make a tangible difference in a child’s life and is one small step towards levelling the playing field for a child in need.
