UDC Law Advocacy Trip to Tijuana

We have a humanitarian crisis at our Southern border.  There are thousands of asylum seekers who have fled their home countries from the Northern Triangle of Central America due to extreme violence and government impunity to this violence.  There are children, parents, and women who desperately need legal services.

A group of thirteen advocates, 10 of whom are UDC students and alumni, are planning an advocacy trip to Tijuana, Mexico to provide legal services during the humanitarian crisis at our Southern border. The trip is planned from December 23-30.  The students and alumni will be conducting legal observing, know your rights presentations, and preparation for credible and reasonable fear interviews to the asylum seekers. They will be under the umbrella of the National Lawyers Guild, Al Otro Lado, and Pueblo Sin Fronteras, all reputable organizations providing legal services to asylum seekers.  Although not required, the students and alumni will be trained on asylum law and on legal observation. They will be accompanied by a licensed immigration attorney with expertise on asylum law. The need is great and this group of advocates is ready to serve at our Southern border where thousands of asylum seekers are in desperate need of legal services, but they need your financial support.  Any donation amount is welcome.

Any surplus money will be used for an additional advocacy trip to Tijuana next year or will be directly donated to the non-profits providing services to the asylum seekers at our Southern border.

Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) proclaims in its first paragraph: “Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.”

We appreciate your generosity.
