Udayan Orphanage

Donation protected
Sara, Emily and Sarah spent last March volunteering at the Udayan Orphanage in Kolkata, India that houses and educates children whose parents suffer from Leprosy. The children that live there truly touched our hearts with their kind and loving nature, bright and ambitious personalities and their extremely positive outlook on life, despite coming from hard circumstances.

We were so touched by the children we met and had such a positive experience that we are hoping to raise around $5,000 to send back to them in India, as they are a non-profit organization that runs mostly on donations. 100% of the funds will go back to the orphanage and we will send updates on what the children receive. Any amount of money will go a long way and put smiles on these amazing children's faces.

Some background information on Leprosy and Udayan:
Leprosy is an infectious disease that affects the skin and nerves, and in severe cases can cause disfiguration and deformities in those most seriously affected. The children of Udayan are taken in from Leper colonies, where their parents are outcasted from society, and live well below the poverty line. These children come from nothing, but are incredibly gracious of all that they are surrounded by and care for those around them with all their hearts. Because of Udayan, they are able to receive a strong education, allowing them to pursue career opportunities; for example, many of the children we met spoke of their goals of becoming nurses so that they can help their families and local communities. As well, they receive three meals a day, loving care from house mothers and fathers, the opportunity to play music and sports, and safe and hygienic living conditions.
