If 2020 couldn't end any more worse, my boyfriend, Matthew, had his car broken into on the night of New Year's Eve in a public parking lot in DTLA while visiting a friend for the holiday. They broke into the back window, opened his trunk, and took all of his expensive work tools valuing roughly $1200.
A little over a year ago, Matthew learned how to be an appliance technician; fixing fridges, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers and other essential home appliances. When the pandemic hit, his services were needed greatly; making sure people could stay home safely and could depend on their appliances working efficiently. Now with his tools missing, his very livelihood is at stake.
A police report was filed the same night of the theft. Matt went back to the parking lot a couple days later to see if he could get camera footage from that night. Thankfully, camera footage of the thieves was captured. However, Matt has attempted to get a hold of the detective on the case to show them the footage, but no one is returning his calls or emails. The police department's lack of urgency on the case, despite having evidence offered to them, is making Matt's chance at getting his tools back very slim. Every day that passes, Matt loses work.
The sooner Matt can afford to purchase new tools (and fix his car window), the sooner he can return to helping homes in need as well as feel confident he can cover his own expenses. Please consider donating to this cause so my boyfriend can get back on his feet.
With the goal of raising $1,500, Matt will be able to replace all of his tools, fix his car window, and add a car alarm to prevent this from happening again.
