Many people don't, and the Southcoast Coalition for Early Childhood Education (SCECE) strives to change that. We are raising funds to launch a website to increase awareness, promote best practice and leverage local resources around early childhood education and development.
Our goal is to develop an online presence that amplifies the work of local community groups focused on early childhood education and development in our region, specifically in Fall River and New Bedford, by creating a platform to share resources that exist only in paper form and build the capacity of passionate grassroots networks. The website will feature the coalition's flagship initiative, The Basics, Southcoast. The Basics , a framework developed by the Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard University, are five evidence-based parenting and care giving principles that incorporate much of what experts find is important for development in children from birth to age three.
About the Southcoast Coalition for Early Childhood Education:
The Southcoast Coalition for Early Childhood Education is a network of cross-sector stakeholders dedicated to ensuring every child has the best start in life and enters kindergarten ready to reach their fullest potential. The coalition was established in 2019 by NorthStar Learning Centers, a provider of early childhood education and care since 1974 and a people-of-color-led non-profit with a mission of helping children, youth and families realize their strengths and dreams.
In the middle of a pandemic, we are reminded that supporting early childhood education and development takes a village- we are all stakeholders when it comes to the health and development of children zero to five, when they thrive, we all thrive.
