My brother David was born with what my parents were told was Cystic Fibrosis. As of late, he was told he's had Bronchiostasis, which is connected to CF.
A couple of years ago his condition worsened and he was told by his physicians in Alberta to prepare himself to have a double lung transplant. After a long journey with a few trips from his hometown in Chetwynd, BC to Edmonton, AB this past year, the transplant team finally deemed him ready for his transplant and he was put on the list this past April.
On September 15th the phone call came and David was flown to Edmonton via air ambulance and after a 6 hour surgery, David had his new lungs from a very gracious donor. Today marks 11 days and David continues to struggle in the ICU and when we visit him, we need to gown up. Today he received a tracheotomy and we were told he has fluid build up around his lungs. All we can do is take it one day at a time and lots of prayer.
David will need to stay in Edmonton for 4 months. He will require support for rental of an apartment, food and rejection drugs that won't be covered for him. David has a home in BC that he shares with our mother. He's been laying in his hospital bed stressing about managing to pay his bills. This gracious man takes care of our mother since our father passed away 3 years ago. Anyone that knows him, know how big of a heart he really has and how he's always there to support anyone in need. Even his nurses say he's been so kind toward them.
Please help us to alleviate David's worry so that he's able to just focus on getting stronger and healthy.
