Ubuntu Village Nola JJIC Gift Drive
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jenny Lawson and I'm one of the owners at Liberty Barbers. For the last few years we have partnered with Ubuntu Village Nola to organize a holiday gift drive for incarcerated youth at the JJIC in New Orleans. Ubuntu Village Nola is a nonprofit organization with a mission to "fight for social, economic, and transformational justice for children and communities." They are committed to providing support and resources for families of youth who are in the justice system.
Back in 2020, we learned about their holiday gift drive and we've been participating ever since. Our first year involved, we donated 25 gift bags. Year after year the needs have grown and sadly the jail is at capacity this year. We will be providing 78 gift bags containing basic hygiene products and store bought-sealed snacks. Last year we spent just over $2,000 for 75 gift bags, so your financial contribution will make a huge difference so we can continue to support this program. The suggested contribution is $30 which roughly covers the cost of one bag...but every little bit makes a difference.
One of our core values at Liberty Barbers is to be a positive influence in our community. We understand that the gesture of a Christmas gift doesn't come close to solving the systemic issues and injustices that are at hand, but it is something the Liberty Barbers community can do. Our hope is that it reminds these young people that they are worthy of love and dignity and that they find the strength and support they need to move in a positive direction.
