I set up this fund to help my Aunt Lisa and Uncle Don Jenkins.
On October 7th, Don Jenkins found out he was going to have an extremely complex heart surgery to remove an aortic aneurysm. His heart surgery began only a week later on Friday, October 16th. The heart surgery took 11 hours and went great. Don was sent to the ICU for recovery and the family was very optimistic. Unfortunately, Don didn’t wake up within 24 hours like expected, which concerned the doctor. He eventually opened his eyes after 40 hours and was unable to talk or move his right side of the body. The doctor assumed he had a stroke. On Monday, October 19th, a CT scan showed he had a massive stroke damaging 2/3 of his brain’s left side, which made his right side paralyzed. They had to do an emergency surgery due to remove part of his skull to allow room for the swelling to expand away from his brain. Don cannot talk and is not very coherent. The Doctors do not know if he will walk, talk, or be cognitive again. However, our hope is with tremendous rehab he will be able to recover from this devastation and will be able to walk, talk, and live a normal life. Don is a fighter and we are confident he will overcome this obstacle.
Don Jenkins has a great family who is helping him through this horrible time. Don has a wife, Lisa, and 6 kids, 4 who were adopted from the Ukraine in February, 2014. Don and Lisa are two of the most caring and thoughtful people I know. They wanted to make a difference by adopting the three teenage girls and a 9 year-old special needs boy. They were stuck in Ukraine for weeks while the war broke out but luckily returned home safe. They adopted the kids with the hope of giving them a better life.
Don and Lisa are amazing people and are always helping others. They are the couple who will help anyone without thinking twice about it. Now it is their time to be helped. With Don out of work, and Lisa missing work to be by his side, we want to help with the sudden financial struggles. We hope to raise money to help with the medical bills not covered by insurance as well as any travel expenses that will occur when Don is sent to rehabilitation. We want Lisa to focus on helping Don back to recovery rather than worrying about finances. Anything you can donate would be extremely thankful. Thank you for taking the time to read their story!
