Michael’s road to recovery and back to Lady!

Michael D’Angelo is my nephew. He was in a serious car accident last Wednesday, February 8th. Michael was headed to New Orleans on I-10 when he lost control of his car and ended up in the median hitting a tree. When he didn’t make it to his destination, his girlfriend got worried and started the search process. She discovered that he had been in a serious accident and was in the ICU with multiple injuries. He had two broken hips, a broken ankle, left knee with a deep laceration exposing the knee cap, a fracture of the C-spine, a hemothorax (blood in between the chest wall and lung), and many bruises, scrapes, cuts and a black eye from his glasses.

There were angels watching over him that night and we are all so grateful that he’s alive! Also, when it was discovered the next morning that his dog “Lady” was in the car with him and missing, his kind boss Jim MacPhaille from 200 North Beach, Bay St. Louis, tracked Lady down and she was found still in the car laying on the back floorboard at the tow yard! We consider that a huge blessing and she will be such a great help in his healing process!

He had surgery that next day on his knee and plates put in both hips. It was later discovered that his ankle was broken too and he had another surgery for that. He is currently at the University Medical Center in New Orleans and is expected to be there at least one more week. We have been told that he will be moved to Encompass rehabilitation hospital in Gulfport, MS for an undetermined amount of time. With plates in both hips and a broken ankle, he will be learning to walk again and will take months to fully recover.
