Jaxons Medical Fund

Hello my name is Rebecca, I am starting this fund for my sister Laura and brother-in-law Jared. They were blessed with the most beautiful miracle baby ever. Here is their story:

Jaxon James was born on January 30, 2014,  3lb 11oz, 16in long. Our miracle baby boy has arrived. His journey in the womb was a tough one. But he is a fighter and he was determined to meet the ones who made him.

Laura's water broke at 11 weeks, leaving her with 1.4cm of fluid, which means she would most likely miscarry.  Her dr.,  Dr Anzaldo wanted the parents to know that in cases like this to prepare for the worst. But despite the odds Jaxons heartbeat kept beating strong. He was given 2-5% chance of survival. And if he did survive he would have no lungs due to no amniotic fluid. He was in the same position for the entire pregnancy.  Laura was to have a cesarean birth when the time came. To everyone's surprise Laura went in to labor at 31 weeks 6 days. At 3:22am on January 30, 2014 Laura had an emergency c-section, do to umbilical cord prolapse. Jaxon came out screaming! He had lungs! He was truly a miracle baby.

Jaxon's condition when born, left and right arm was not capable of extending, left more than the right. Left foot is a club foot. And right hip was dislocated.

Jaxon  had a cast put on his left leg , from foot to top of the thigh, to try and straighten out his club foot. That was changed out every week for 5 weeks. After that they waited to get fitted for a brace. Because of no amniotic fluid and not being able to move his head is oval shaped, he was referred to a cranial specialist where he will receive a helmet. Afte 6 weeks and 2 days they where able to come home from CHOC hospital. But they were not done with dr.s and appts. Jaxon is to go to physical therapy at CHOC rehab center twice a week, to work on his tight arms and legs and head control and positioning. Jaxon wore a brace to see if it will help with his hip for 24hrs a day. Not to be taken off at all. This was to put hip back in socket so to not have surgery. This did not work so around a year old he will have surgery to correct his hip.  At 6 months Jaxon received a Mitchell brace to be worn 20hrs a day for 3 months, this is to correct club foot.  Then he will wear at night till age 4 because their is a chance of relapse. Jaxon received a helmet the he wore for 5 months with only an hour a day off. He is missing hair on the right side of his head and has no right eyebrow muscle or hair, which the doctor said will most likely not grow in.  Jaxons surgery for his hip will consist of cutting a t-shape incision and pulling femur bone down and in to the socket. He will wear a spica cast for  4 months resized every 6 weeks. He will then get a hip harness brace to wear at night after cast. Then therapy twice a week to help him get strength in legs and learn how to crawl and walk.

At a year old Jaxon had the surgery on his hip. Everything went well and he was put in the spica cast, now on his road to recover.  So far Jaxon has had one cast change, he will have one more then the cast will be taken off. So 8 more weeks.

Jaxon will also most likely need another surgery before he is 2 to either bring his testicle down or remove it. He will have and ultrasound after his cast is off to decide what will happen but one more surgery and we hope he is in the clear.

Having a child that should be crawling and walking and is now in a huge cast, not allowing him to move or explore is hard enough but to add medical bills on top of that, should not be something any parent should have to do. The struggle should not be, "how can we pay for this, or will my son receive the help he needs?" I need help In taking that stress away. I love my sister and her beautiful family and all I can ask for is to please help me in this journey to giving Jaxon the childhood he deserves.  So they can give all their attention to their boy and help him get through these tough times so he can feel like the child he is. Past, present, and future medical bills are adding up. And I know they would be so greatful for any help.

Thank you again, we appreciate all the love from everyone around us near and far.
