A Dangerous Silence Documentary

Project Origins
My mother, my grandmother and my aunt were all involved in abusive relationships. My own father laid hands on my mother once, and as a field photographer for WLTZ NBC 38 News, I witnessed 6 cases of murder due to domestic violence. The need to use my skills and resources to do something grew stronger.

Jerrica Spellman, Destinee Virgin, Mariah Farrow, and DeAnn King are victims, who I highlight in the project. They all could have easily been my friend or family and they did not deserve to have their lives cut short by this Dangerous Silence. This project is necessary because these situations can happen to anyone, and they affect everyone.

Project Goals
The state of Georgia has high rates of domestic abuse and dating violence with 2,035 reported deaths between 2003 and 2018 (gcfv.ga.gov). Columbus, GA  has been a powder keg of family tragedies. I want to help reverse this trend. Our goal is to spread awareness, to spark conversation and to help save lives. The target market audience age range is 13 – 35-year old’s.

A Dangerous Silence will feature original music in its soundtrack. There will be a preview screening October 2020 in Columbus, GA. There will be live music, food, educators, anti domestic violence organizations, activities and a presentation of the film followed by a Q & A.

A Dangerous Silence will also be entered into several film festivals across the nation. I will pursue television and streaming service deals to make the film available for cable viewing and online. Lastly, I am negotiating with school systems to schedule the film as an annual presentation for their students.

The $10,000 will cover the remaining fees for the creative talent, licensing and copyright fees, advertising costs, film festival application fees,  venue rental charges for preview screening and more.

This documentary is a benefit to Columbus and every community. What is happening here is happening everywhere. The difference is we have an active task force to break up the Dangerous Silence, and allow domestic violence Survivors the opportunity to share their stories of strength. This film is dedicated to everyone who has lost their lives to domestic abuse and it is a commemoration to all the survivors.
