Friends for Health in Haiti

Hello Friends of Johns Hopkins School of Nursing!

In rural Haiti, less than 50% the population has access to clean water. Only 26% has access to improved sanitation.

Haitians suffer tremendously from water-borne diseases including cholera and hepatitis.

This May, a small group of JHU School of Nursing Students will be traveling to Haiti to work with an organization called Friends for Health in Haiti.

Please consider donating to FHH, who provides primary care to rural Haitians who have almost no access to health care. The clinic sees hundreds of patients a week, many of whom walk hours each way to be seen there. In addition, FHH support community health promoters in the communities around the clinic. These promoters do health education focused on safe water and sanitation practice and have helped mobilize community resources to plan the installation of latrines. The JHU students will be working directly with FHH staff and the community promoters to help them meet their community health goals. Funds will be used for developing continuing education materials for the community health workers, salary for translators, and medical supplies and medications requested by Friends for Health in Haiti.

Students from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing have been working with FHH for 9 years. Please visit their site to learn more about the agency and previous school of Nursing efforts in the area: friendsforhealthinhaiti.org

Thank you for your support of this amazing organization that works tirelessly to improve access to health!
