I can't begin to imagine how it would feel to hear those terrifying words...'YOU HAVE CANCER!'
Yet, those are the words the consultant used when she broke the news to Adele.
She has Advanced Stage-2 Breast Cancer and it has travelled to her lymph nodes. Adele is 31!
Adele discovered a lump in her breast a year ago but was told by doctors there was nothing to worry about...turns out, they were terribly mistaken.
Although most people would have fallen apart, Adele, (in true Adele style) looked at the positives and vowed to fight back, bite back, with everything inside her. She still smiles.
Adele is a funny, beautiful, vivacious young woman with hair like fire and a spirit to match and most of all...she is my friend.
I first met Adele when we worked together with children who have profound special educational needs. She is currently half way through, Clinical Training in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy.
Despite her desire to carry on with everyday life, she now must face an uphill struggle with daily tests and doctor appointments, surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment. Consequently, she is unable to work right now.
Although her employer is keeping her training course open, for now she has to survive on statutory sick pay. This barely covers her rent let alone living expenses and any additional expences associated with her treatment. Therefore, I am hoping to raise enough to provide Adele with a buffer to cover these, and any future expences she might need post surgery for specialist treatment and recuperation.
Once, when I asked Adele what her ultimate ambitions were, she replied:
'Basically, I want to shove my wellies on and take psychotherapy to those that have barely heard of it but desperately need it.'
An extraordinary woman who deserves every chance of a healthy future and your donation could make that difference. Adele lives her life helping others - now it's our turn to help her.
