Dan's ACL Reconstruction and Rehab

Donation protected
Hello I'm Dan.

I'm  a footballer who has been playing in England for 14 years. I have always played at very high level clubs ( including Charlton, Spurs, Gillingham, Millwall,  Yeovil , Oxford UTD,  Brighton and Hove). I was lucky enough to win the super league with Yeovil and get promoted,  I also played in Florida for a season in Tampa.

I normally train  5 times  a week or more.  I am someone who has always been active and I take a lot of pride in being fit and well.

On the 11th October 2020, during a match against Enfield FC I took a challenge  which led to a career changing injury. I was rushed into hospital and  after an x-ray I was informed that I had dislocated my knee and the doctors needed to do further investigations.

As a player you naturally fear the worst but I still wasn't ready for the news I received.. ...and it was worse than any of us had predicted.

The results showed that I have ruptured my ACL along with both sides of my meniscus  on my left knee, I have fractured my Patella through the midline, and my joints are fading away which is causing things to become worse in the knee area, hamstring and quad.

They found a clot behind my knee and I have ruptured my posterior midline knee capsule.  Along with this I have also torn my PCL.

4 days ago I was told that the waiting list on the NHS for the operations and procedures I need is around 2 years.

Unfortunately for the first time in my career I'm not at a football club that can fund the treatment I need to fully recover. Due to the pandemic and the strain on the NHS right now, I know it's going to be very difficult to get the help I need going forward.

The donations I am asking for will go towards funding the operation privately and the recovery period.   I know it's going to be a long process,  but if given the chance it would allow me to get back on my feet and start playing football again -  the one thing I really love.  It will also help me get back to a normal life and carry out day to day activities that currently I struggle with.  If I don't have this operation in the next 6/7 months my injuries with deteriorate quickly.

A footballer at any level would experience massive heartache with this kind of injury, I have been playing football now for many years and I'm still not ready to hang up my boots, but without an operation and a good recovery this is something I will have to face.

I know how hard things are right now for everyone, and asking for financial help is something I wouldn't normally do.  But in the circumstances, I have run out of options and I am unable to work (as a self employed personal trainer) due to my injuries.  I would really  appreciate any help, even if you could just share my page.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
