Chloe on Mission (YWAM)

I would like to tell you a story, a story about me. When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up and help people through the military like my dad. My family has dozens of pictures of me stumbling around in my dad’s boots.  I never could fill his shoes! I also wanted to be a teacher. I used to force my sister to “play school” with me, and she was always so annoyed with it.

This past spring, I signed up for a mission trip to Taiwan with my youth group. My sister and I both joined this team and spent our spring break in Taiwan evangelizing. This short week was one of the most amazing trips I have ever been on. I completely stepped out of my comfort zone. Sharing the gospel is never easy and even harder when you can’t speak the language. We had partnered with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and they had an evangelical café called The Rock. At The Rock, we sat down and talked with complete strangers, and to my surprise, they were incredibly open to conversation. We visited a nursing home, a hospital, a train station, and a surfing town.  I was gently encouraged by one of my youth leaders to step out and sing at some of the various places we visited, and I did. It was a huge leap, but as I did so, it was incredible to feel God calm me. The whole trip was so powerful. I could see God in the YWAM staff and it was easy to get excited about their mission.

Through conversation with some of the staff, I discovered that YWAM has a Discipleship Training School (DTS) and I started ask for more information. I found out that it is a five-month course consisting of a three-month lecture phase where they help equip you with God’s word and a two-month missions phase. I really wanted to do this!

When we flew back home to Okinawa, I was nervous to tell my parents that I believed I was called to missions, not to college. I had already been accepted and would have to turn down scholarships and colleges in order to go through with this. Yet, after I told my dad, he was supportive of it and so was my mom. We prayed and researched, and decided it was God’s call for me. I applied and am now planning on going to Taiwan for DTS in September. I am extremely excited. I believe God has called me to missions. In His word, over and over, He tells us to GO! We, as Christians, are called to MOVE for Him. We should not be sitting in our comfort-zones when He created us to shout His praise! For if we do not praise Him, the very earth will.

In Romans 10: 13-14 Paul says “For, ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

I believe that my childhood dream of helping and teaching people is fulfilled in this plan that God has set ahead of me.  I also think that God has prepared me for this through my travels as a military brat.

But there is a cost for this school, and this is where I ask for your help. I am humbled as I ask for your help and support: financially and through prayer. I have to raise $5000 for this school, and I believe that as this is God’s will, he will provide. I have saved some money and will continue to baby-sit and do other odd jobs to raise money. I also pray that you will read this and pray for me, whether God puts it on your heart to financially support me or not, I ask for your prayerful support. Prayer is the most important thing I can ask from you. If you feel led to support me, you can do so here or send a contribution directly to me or my parents. Any money that I receive as graduation gifts will also go directly towards DTS.

Thank you for all your support. I am extremely excited to begin this new chapter in my life and see God move.
